![]() The other Knuckles and Rouge levels are pretty even with how much the RNG can affect your ability to get an A-rank it doesn't really matter where they spawn, even in Meteor Herd. Just 'cause the game says "You need to do it better to get the rank you want" doesn't mean the level is poorly designed.Īt least with Sand Ocean the rules for the A-rank are pretty clear (combos, not time), and you can do it consistently once you understand the rules. If you had a fun time and it felt fair throughout, I think the level is fine. I also don't think the levels were designed specifically so that you should be able to ace them on the first story playthrough. It just stands out in Sand Ocean because there are far fewer opportunities to get shooting combos than in Eggman's other levels you have to pretty much get every possible one (although you do have some room for error). ![]() ![]() In this game in general the time bonus is not as important as your score from tricks and combos. On the Hard mode though, sometimes enemies will spawn on you in the middle of hovering across gaps, and you'll die. You can get hit as much as you want because of what people above me said about the way the game counts your ring score. As long as you do the level quickly and rack up all the targeting combo scores, the A-rank is pretty definite.Īs long as you don't die on Eternal Engine, you should be fine for the A-rank. Then you can target every single dynamite pack on the pillars for an Awesome combo chain and get 1000 points. You need the hover upgrade, so you can hover as soon as you hit the jump pad and make it to the topmost ledge. The trick to Sand Ocean's A-rank is when Eggman hits the jump pad towards the end of the level. For example, sometimes you end up with a crystal on top of a platform on the high-gravity planet, or rotating around the center of the highest planet. Mad Space's 4th mission gave me the toughest time to A-rank, because sometimes you end up with crystal spawns that are just plain hard to get even if you know where they are.
